There you go – with another track, another time, another mood and the same scheme. You can hear now a track I was lucky enough to record while jamming with a friend of mine. I spontaneously decided to call our one-evening-band “Gold and Zunder” and named our only track “Yellow Flags”. You might enjoy that track, or you might not, depends.

New Gear! – Update

I discovered even more new features that are not part of the interface enhancements: Especially the tool “Looper”, a simple and classic, but ultra useful audio loop station fully controllable by only ONE(!) MIDI pedal, and the new distortion effect, which ads a wonderfully warm overdrive to the existing range of Live’s effects. I guess I will put a demo of it only the next few days when a friend of mine will come over for a little jam session.

Nomen est omen, again. And guess what’s new? It’s Live 8, oh yes, yes!! Currently it’s still installing, but everything seems to work alright, and in about half an hour I will be playing around with it like a madman to get accustomed with all the wonderful new interface and workflow features. It has everything i’ve been missing in Live 7:

Groupable tracks! I missed this one so much! When you work with 20 to 30 tracks at a time while some of them should have the same effects or automation it can be really difficult to realize this without having the possibility to group them.
New automated crossfading features. E.g. useful when given a short sample and needing a long one: The short sample must be overlapped and overfaded several times with itself in order to create the long version. This process will be way faster then before when using the new Live.
Better MIDI-Editor which enhances the workflow of reediting MIDI recordings.
Transients! I need them to create soft and subtle tempo variations.
Much more wicked stuff! This is what i want! Especially the wickedness …

New old track

I’ve discovered an older track of mine I made at a friend about a year ago, using his Reason 3.0 audio system. It has different features than Ableton’s Live, for example no .wav audio track support, but very mighty synths. Here’s the result:

Hope you like it! Anyway, I will not put it onto the upcoming Grub Brother album because it’s just to different, using no samples at all, but only synths and midi files.

New Equipment

This post should actually belong to the equipment page, but I post it here because it’s still news and stuff. So, here come the news, which are in fact older than one week, but delayed by the migration of my blog to another server and the provider-related mess coming along with it: I’ve bought a drum, rather a djembe. The former owner wasn’t really satisfied with its sounds telling me it was missing the “low vibrations”, and because I don’t bother if there is what he called so or not I handed him over 30 bucks and the djembe was mine. Now I just need to record a few good samples of it. But you (who are you?) can be sure it’ll appear in the next track. Probably. Joke, sure! Joke, I dunno. Just wait for it …

The new grubbrother.com main site development is still not finished due to problems with my provider and my databases. I hope I can do it in another week …

After some troubles with my provider (at this point I’m not sure wether I should recommend it or not) the migration of my old site seems to be almost done, the files and databases are moved, the configuration restored and broken links fixed. Mission accomplished!

After some palaver with my very cooperative (and very recommendable) provider, my webspace will be moved to a new managing system and the way for my new grubbrother.com site is paved. Stay tuned for the new grubbrother experience!

Eventually the blog will be down for one or two days due to the reinput of my backups and reconfiguring wordpress and its databases.

The content for the new grubbrother.com domain is under development and I hope it will be finished within a week. Thanks to Microsoft and all its overblown, hypercritically capitalistic bunch of mighty professional development and wannabe design tools I can code my site in C#! OMG! Wonderful! I just hope that my webspace provider won’t throw a monkey wrench in my perfect plans and let me access my DBs remotely. Or I’ll find another way to access them. Hm …

Announcing the first album

As I’ve been creating this blog, the first album is on his way to completion. It will most probably be called “Grub Brother” (Surprise, surprise!) and feature about 6 or 7 tracks. The first four of them can be considered as being done (they’ll be undergoing only minor improvements), the 5th is half ready, the 6th and 7th one only ideas. I hope that I’ll be able – thanks to term break – to complete them during the next month. Take a look at the cover: Calm, isn’t it? It’s a picture I’ve taken after a rainy day in autumn at my fathers when the sun got through and made all the field billowing under a curtain of mist. If you want to listen to the tracks or download them, just visit my last.fm profile! C&C are welcome. I’m also thinking about uploading them here, but I’m not sure if I’ll manage to train WordPress to behave in a more pleasant way. Stay tuned.
